Avery Louis

Founding Research Engineer

Avery is interested in how humans build and sustain knowledge about the world—focusing on scientific progress through computational, evolutionary, and epistemological lenses. At the Santa Fe Institute, Avery modeled how communities of scientists work together, revealing how measurements of success can impede collective progress. At Stanford she received a Brown Institute grant for her work extracting knowledge graphs from large, unstructured news archives. Avery holds a B.S. in Symbolic Systems with Honors from Stanford, and was recognized with the Glushko Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. Her master's thesis studies evolutionary perspectives on scientific progress.
